Farm Experience Day Camp ~ Farmer in training 2018 Junior Intern

This is a 6-day session,  unlike the regular 5-day student session.

Geared to the 12-14 year old student that has aged out of our regular class.

The Farm Experience Day Camp provides children with the opportunity to develop character, learn valuable life skills, make new friends and discover new interests, all while experiencing real life on a bio-diverse local family farm.

The Junior Intern plays an important role in helping to teach a small class of students about life on a organic bio-diverse farm.

The requirement for this class is prior experience as a Farm Experience Day Camp student of Midway Farms. The prospective Junior Intern must have exceptional listening skills and the ability to follow through and finish tasks without intense supervision.

The Junior Intern will assist in higher level care & receive instruction on feeding of farm animals as one would need to learn to become a sustainable farmer. They will learn safe handling of Abigail and Lady, our two cows. The Junior Interns training will cover poultry as well.

Later through the week, the garden focus will include picking, boxing and preparing for direct sales marketing at the Corvallis Farmers Market the following Saturday.

On Saturday, the Junior Intern will learn how to set up at a Farmers Market, display produce, and greet customers. They will lean how to conduct sales and properly count back change on cash sales.

Junior Interns will arrive 9am sharp, one hour prior to the start of the Farm Experience Day Camp, and will end at 4pm, one hour after camp ends, Monday through Friday. Saturday, we will meet up with the Junior Intern at the Corvallis Farmers Market at 8:30am and end at 1:30pm. The Intern will take home some produce from the week’s adventure.

This is for serious students only.

Please pack a hefty lunch for your student each day.

We provide snack and water and a Midway Farms tee-shirt.

Students are to wear sunscreen, sun hats and closed-toed shoes.

Please call for Internship week choice availability.

We hope your child has the opportunity to join us this summer for an experience fit for building any resume!
